Description

2 decoys from Canada, 2nd quarter 20th century.

A redhead drake, Richard Whale, Wallaceburg, Ontario.  Slightly turned head and scratch feather paint detail on back.  Branded ‘Hall’ in underside for collector Gary Hall.  Pictured on page 75 of ‘Decoys of South West Ontario’ by Briscoe.

Also a bluewing teal drake from Philipsburg, Quebec.  Relief wing carving and slightly turned head.

CONDITION:  Redhead in original paint with minor discoloration from a coat of varnish; very little wear; teal in original paint with moderate  wear; reglued crack in neck; minor chipping one on side on neck seat.

Provenance:  Peter Brown collection to the benefit of DU Canada.
