Description

Early eider drake, George W. Benner (1864-19??), Port Clyde, Maine, circa 1900.

Inlet head and relief carved eider bill.  Branded ‘G.W. Benner’ on underside. George W. Benner was the son of decoy maker and folk carver Enoch Benner. 

CONDITION:  Early in use repaint with nice patina and moderate wear; the black appears to be mostly original; drying cracks in back and breast; secure crack through neck; tip of bill is a nicely done replacement with touch up in the area; shallow chip in back.
