Description

Canvasback drake from the rig of John Leverett Saltonstall, 1 quarter 20 century.

The body is by Elmer Crowell whom Saltonstall was a friend and hunting companion along with Dr. John C. Phillips.  The head is by the Mason Decoy Factory, Detroit, Michigan.  Branded “J.L. Saltonstall” in the underside.  Saltonstall was a Massachusetts Senator and Governor and close acquaintance of at least 10 US Presidents.  For more information on J.L. Saltonstall visit the Saltonstall Family Collections on the Massachusetts Historical Society website.  Formerly in the William Mackey collection and so stamped.

CONDITION:  Old working repaint possibly by Crowell with very minor wear; head is mostly original paint; tight crack in one side of neck seat.
