Description

Bluebill, Mason Decoy Factory, Detroit, Michigan, 1st quarter 20th century.

Hollow carved premier grade with detailed bill carving and glass eyes.  Extra wide bill carving.  Branded 'F.G.B.' twice in underside.  Old paper tag by early decoy collector Hal Evans attributes the decoy to the rig of Singer Sewing Machine magnate H.G. Bourne who owned Dark Island near Alexandria Bay, New York.  Label also attributes the repaint to Chauncey Wheeler of Alexandria Bay.  

CONDITION:  Old working repaint in the Alexandria Bay style with comb feather detailing; minor wear; lightly hit by shot; small chip in top of head and one side of bill.
