Description

Miniature hooded merganser, Robert W. Means, Boston, Massachusetts, dated 1932.

Standing on wooden base with forward head pose.  Signed and dated 1932 on the underside.  Means was a friend of Dr. John C. Phillips and his carvings were exhibited along with Shang Wheeler, Bob McGaw, AJ Dando, and others at the 1931 Wildfowl Decoys Exhibition at Abercrombie and Fitch.  A similar full-size hooded merganser that was carved by Means for Dr. John C. Phillips was sold in 1991 for $3000, twice it's high estimate.  Measures 5” long and stands 4 5/8" tall with base.

CONDITION:  Original paint with minor crazing; excellent structurally.
