Sanderling from Long Island, circa 1880.

Similar to the work of the Verity family with relief wing carving and carved eyes.  Pictured on page 54 of 'Shore Bird Decoys' by Henry A. Fleckenstein Jr.  Attributed to Captain Abraham Smith, Feeport, Long Island circa 1880 in the book.  Measures 7 1/2” long.

CONDITION:  Original paint with minor flaking and wear; tight cracks in tail and body; bill is likely an old replacement; old touch up on breast and at a small chip in back of neck.
