Rigmate pair of mergansers, Captain Stites York, Cape May, New Jersey, last quarter 19th century.

Hollow carved with extended crests.  ‘C.A. Swain’ branded into the underside of both.  Hen also has ‘P.F. Rothelle’ branded into the underside.  Measures 16” long.

CONDITION:  Original paint with moderate gunning wear; lightly hit by shot; spots of paint loss at nail holes around body seam; drake’s bill is a professional replacement.
